The SUNFISH Project Final Conference “Innovation, Cybersecurity and Efficiency: a new European Platform of Securely Federated Cloud Services” took place in Rome at the Ara Pacis Auditorium on November 8th 2017.During the event, the Consortium presented its three use cases, realised following a use centric approach to reply to concrete needs and requirements of the Consortium’s public sector partners. Presenting the use case of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Interior were the Chief of Police and Director General for Public Security, Franco Gabrielli and the Head of General Administration, Personnel and Service Department of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, Luigi Ferrara.Pierre Vella, Head of Programme Management Department and the Malta Information Technology Agency, and Phil Parker, Head of the South East Technical Surveillance Unit of SEROCU exposed respectively the results of the Maltese Ministry of Finance use case and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit one.
The following panel discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities around new technologies, cloud and blockchain federation, as much as new prospective for collaboration between public and private sector. Panellists were the Head of the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID), Antonio Samaritani, Senior Policy Coordinator Cloud & Software at the DG CONNECT of the European Commission, Francisco Medeiros, Research Vice President at Gartner, Jay Heiser, and EMEA Consulting Chief Operating Officer at PwC, Tom DeGarmo.Closing the Conference was the Italian Minister for Economy and Finance, Pier Carlo Padoan. Underlining the importance of innovation and technology for the growth and productivity of the country, he pointed out how “the public sector has the capacity to become leader in the field of technology and competences” and added “it is paramount the redesign of budgetary choices with the aim of introducing technology as one of the main priorities. European Institutions are playing a central role in this regard and in Brussels, many are talking about “Innovation Union”.
